(MABINOGION.)
Les Mabinogion Du Livre Rouge de Hergest Avec Les Variantes Du Livre Blanc de Rhydderch. Traduits Du Gallios Avec Une Introduction, Un Commentaire Explicatif Et Des Notes Critiques Par J. Loth.
Paris: Fontemoing, 1913. Second edition, ‘edition entierement revue, corigee et augmentee’, 2 volumes, royal 8vo., pp.436; 478, title page in red and black, original printed wrappers at rear, attractively bound in green library buckram with morocco label to spines, a fine set. This second edition of Professor Loth’s highly regarded French translation of The Mabinogion, was greatly revised and corrected in the light of Dr. Evans diplomatic edition of The White Book. Loth’s translation keeps more closely to the Welsh original than Lady Guest’s English translation, and contains a valuable apparatus of illustrative material drawn from Welsh medieval literature.
